Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of power plants can you help with?

We test, diagnose and troubleshoot any power plant where gas turbines and/or steam turbines are the prime mover.

Which countries do you operate in?

We operate globally. Our multi-lingual team has extensive experience testing in remote locations around the world. We currently support business operations in English, French and Spanish.

What is an estimated price range of your services?

Each project is carefully analyzed to provide a tailored scope of work that fits the specific needs of the plant. Some scopes can be done remotely, while others require several days on-site. The depth of audits and analyses will also depend on the problem’s complexity. Please contact us and we will work together to understand what scope fits best with your needs.

I already have a resident performance engineer and a monitoring software. How would TOPPS Technica bring any added value?

You can’t fix what you cannot see, and plant performance is inherently linked to high uncertainty measurements and methods. TOPPS Technicas experience at site combined with our top-class analysis methods allows you to see your plant with an accuracy that is not easily achieved.

Without key proprietary information from the OEM, such as the cooling flows, how can you diagnose a gas turbine?
A gas turbine can be diagnosed to a great extent without knowing proprietary parameters such as the true firing temperature or the true turbine section efficiency. Compressor airflows can be estimated by different energy balance methods. ISO firing temperatures can also be determined assuming all cooling flows re-enter the main path at the combustor. Ultimately this allows tracking true deltas over time which can be used to explain performance shortfalls. For certain kinds of issues such as combustion problems, transient stability or firing temperature adjustments, the OEM will be needed as they have the true thermal models and software privilege access.
